GRDC spring tour takes in CANFA trials

In September (2009), members of the GRDC visited CANFA's trial sites at Wellington as part of their annual spring tour. They looked at the GRDC-funded stubble management trial, cover cropping and pasture cropping trials funded through Grain & Graze (Central West/Lachlan project).

The GRDC panel members were shown around by CANFA EO, Neville Gould, Wellington farmer, Mark Conn (also Central East RAC representative) and NSW DII Orange Ag Institute's Geoffrey Miller. Emphasis was placed on the management of crop residue and ground cover in general, as well as the need to maintain ground cover if no-till systems are to succeed. The importance of rotation crops and the need for robust options in the Central West were also stressed to the panel members.
