ARCHIVE - MED REL: Annual Conference & Award announcement coming soon
16-Jul-2011
This year the 16th Annual Conservation Agriculture Conference hosted by the Conservation Agriculture and No-till Farming Association (CANFA) will explore the direction in which technology is taking the industry.
The day-long conference program set down for 2 August at Dubbo RSL Club will bring together farmers at the forefront of the industry together with specialists from across Australia and overseas to present and discuss issues currently impacting on conservation agriculture.
Speakers in this year's program include CEO of Needham Ag Technologies (Kentucky, USA), Phil Needham; 2010 Conservation Farmer of the Year, Michael Pfitzner (Griffith, NSW); Nuffield Scholars Dave Gooden (NSW) and Steve Ball (South Australia); Landmark South Australia's Product Development Agronomist, Leighton Wilksch; Rabobank Regional Manager, Peter Anderson; and Charles Sturt University PhD student, Matt McNee.
CANFA executive officer, Neville Gould said the annual conference was the highlight of a busy CANFA calendar for several reasons.
“Annual conference is a rare time of the year when many farmers can step off their farms and spend a day listening to the latest developments in the industry, talking with other farmers and making contact with people in the industry who can help them do what they do best.
“The other reason annual conference is a special event is because it is when we give public recognition to those farmers who have the ability to farm in an environmentally sustainable and profitable way and have a willingness to contribute to the well-being of the farming community, locally and generally.”
The Conservation Farmer of the Year (CFOTY) Award is now in its 15th year of rewarding outstanding commitment to conservation agriculture and no-till farming practices by farmers across four of the State’s catchments – the Central West, Lachlan, Murrumbidgee and Murray.
The regional CFOTY finalists will be announced later this month, with the winner of the Award to be announced at the Annual Conference Dinner on the evening of 2 August at the Cattleman’s Country Motor Inn.
Mr Gould said, “This year, we’re also recognising some other industry leaders for their long-serving dedication to the promotion and development of conservation agriculture.”
“If it wasn’t for the leadership and drive of these individuals, often outside of their work commitments, we would be a lot further behind in our understanding and practice of conservation agriculture in Central NSW.”
Conference bookings are now open and can be made by downloading the program and booking form from the CANFA website or by calling the CANFA office on 02 6845 1044 or emailing canfa@bigpond.com. Early bird registrations close on 22 July.
